The CE Group Celebrates Quarter Century of Community Commitment, Growth and Vitality

San Antonio, TX (August 2015) – San Antonio, circa 1990:  Pearl Brewery was just that—a brewery. The Spurs played their games in HemisFair Arena because neither the Alamodome nor the AT&T Center had been built and five NBA Championships were a distant dream. SeaWorld San Antonio was brand new, Fiesta Texas didn’t exist. The Shops at La Cantera—and the rest of the city’s bustling northwest side—was nothing more than fields, pastures and fences and the famed River Walk didn’t stretch beyond downtown. A new business opened its doors with a small table, two employees and one phone—with an actual cord.

San Antonio circa 1990 certainly wasn’t the city that it is today, and with 60 employees and associates, offices in San Antonio, Austin and Houston—and definitely more than one phone!—The CE Group has come a long way as well. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the full-service event-based marketing and public relations agency credits its milestone to evolving as both San Antonio and the event, marketing and public relations industries have grown, expanding its services to both stay relevant and meet client needs as the Alamo City has blossomed. To honor this silver anniversary, The CE Group has pledged its continued commitment to success, health and wellness, and progress, both within the agency’s walls and throughout the community.

Working Behind the Scenes to Create Excellence

San Antonio is frequently referred to as a city on the rise. A peek behind the scenes of the city’s evolution often reveals The CE Group at work, producing an event, creating an experience, sharing a story or designing success for many community-shaping campaigns, events and initiatives. The agency has worked hand-in-hand with the City and its top officials—including every mayor since Mayor Lila Cockrell—helping the city not only embrace trends, but set them as well, assisting or advising on major initiatives that have helped the city’s transformation, including Luminaria: Arts Night in San Antonio, Culinaria, the San Antonio Book Festival and the San Antonio Cocktail Conference, as well as activities that are now part of the city’s fabric, such as Síclovía, the fabric of events and activities at the Pearl, Downtown Tuesdays and the San Antonio Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon.

Through the leadership of Janet Holliday, the agency’s president and CEO, The CE Group has provided the infrastructure and vision that ignites collaboration, community involvement, profound partnerships and results. From behind the curtain, The CE Group has been on the front lines of San Antonio’s evolution, staging the grand openings of the Alamodome, The Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center Expansion, Terminal B at the San Antonio International Airport, San Antonio Central Public Library, the Museum Reach and the Mission Reach of the San Antonio River, Morgan’s Wonderland, the Briscoe Western Art Museum and the city’s latest gem, The DoSeum.

The agency’s extensive experience, continued innovation and an unparalleled commitment to client service have allowed The CE Group to play a recurring and leading role in many of the city’s celebrated events, including those that have helped put San Antonio on the national stage, such as the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Final Four, the San Antonio Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, Festival People en Español and Women in the World Texas. And of course, it’s also produced each of the Spurs’ five NBA Championship parades, as well as countless corporate and nonprofit campaigns and initiatives.

In recognition of The CE Group’s and her personal commitment to make San Antonio a better place to live and visit, Holliday received the 2014 Con Corazón Award from the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau.  The award recognizes a person or organization that has helped San Antonio by bringing long-term, prestigious exposure to the city, a role that Holliday and the agency cherish.

Measuring Success through Long Standing Relationships

Never one to rest on its laurels, The CE Group’s work is not done:  in 2016, it will help engineer the grand opening of the latest expansion of The Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, an extension of a longer-term relationship and the result of the agency’s commitment to providing the best client service and results time after time. Next year’s opening of the convention center expansion will mark the 24th year that The CE Group has executed initiatives on the City’s behalf.

While The CE Group is celebrating an anniversary this year, long-time client H-E-B is marking its 110th anniversary, with the agency executing a series of celebrations across the state on H-E-B’s behalf. The CE Group has been a valued partner of H-E-B for more than 14 years, working on events locally and throughout the state of Texas, including the H-E-B 100th anniversary in 2005, its Excellence in Education awards, the Slim Down Showdown, store openings and more.

“The CE Group grasps the vision of our campaigns, manages and implements the different events and promotions across the state and serves as a strategic and critical partner in our success, helping us mark H-E-B Celebration 100 and 10 years later, helping us mark another milestone with our 110th. As the event logistics firm for all of our key grand openings and promotional events, our ongoing relationship with CE generates results,” says Kate Rogers, Vice President of Communication and Engagement at H-E-B.

The agency prides itself on long standing relationships, earned through its commitment to customer service. Thanks to its reputation of delivering results, CST Brands sought The CE Group’s help to launch  a new series of running events, Corner Store Country Runs in 2014. The agency assisted with eight events across the country last year and serves as the overall project manager for the 2015 and 2016 Corner Store Country Runs to include event and race management for 10 events across the country, overseeing the advance efforts and on-site operations, design, and management of each event, working closely with CST Brands on the execution and organization of the runs, all of which benefit national and local children’s charities. The 2014 series resulted in more than $1 million in charity donations.

“The CE Group is not just another vendor, they are a true partner and an integral part of the Corner Store Country Run’s blue ribbon success!” says Kim Lubel, President and Chief Executive Officer of CST Brands.

Embracing the Entrepreneurial Spirit

The agency’s overall growth and roster of fantastic clients and events is due to its talented team, which embraces the entrepreneurial spirit that fueled the birth of Clever Endeavors, The CE Group’s founding name. The agency encourages employees to follow their passions, explore new interests and foster creativity, inspiring every member of the team to discover their journey and focus on surrounding themselves with excellent people and quality work. Like the agency’s founders, CE Groupers always go a step further, developing and nurturing relationships and resources to benefit the community and most of all, embrace what they do and make it their own.

Through The CE Group’s nimble business model, custom teams are built to focus on the most effective services and achieve unique results for each client. This entrepreneurial spirit has allowed CE to deliver one-of-a-kind campaigns and develop services that leave a lasting impression, while meeting and exceeding the needs of clients in new, innovative ways. For example, in 2012, The CE Group launched a creative goods and services division, Goods Collective, as a direct result of the combination of talents and creative energy of team members. In an effort to be the one-stop shop for clients, Goods Collective designs, sources and produces creative collateral for special events and creative campaigns including signage, marketing pieces, invitations, corporate amenity campaigns, branded items, VIP gifts, unique favors and more.

In 2015, the entrepreneurial spirit of The CE Group is shining through its newly-expanded public relations and marketing division, providing an array of communication offerings to best serve its clients. From ongoing public relations, event marketing and social media to multi-part projects that deserve an experienced, dedicated communications team, the agency constantly evolves to meet industry demands while never losing sight of the importance of great service and relationships.

Paired with The CE Group’s ever-evolving, growing business is a belief in community and philanthropic service. For the agency to continue to prosper, the city it calls home must prosper as well. In 2014 alone, CE granted more than $100,000 in donations, discounts and sponsorships—a level of giving that the company plans to continue, beginning with “Veg Out SA!”. To celebrate The CE Group’s history while also providing a platform as a small business to create a healthier San Antonio, the agency has partnered with the Mayor’s Fitness Council’s “Veg Out SA!” campaign to help raise awareness on the health benefits of consuming more fruits and vegetables as part of a daily diet. The CE Group is donating time and resources to produce a social media strategy for the campaign targeted at raising awareness on the significance of healthy living throughout the community.

The CE Group is living by example, too, by incorporating healthy living into its office environment. Follow The CE Group online (on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) as it documents its commitment to 25 more successful, healthy years and use the campaign’s hashtags, #VegOutSA and #CEandme, to join the conversation.
